Old Video Tape Rip -> Trim -> Stabilize -> Export app/workflow that won’t cost an arm and a leg?

i’ve been volunteered project of getting old family videos off video tapes (vhs, vhs-c, hi-8, dv) , usable digital archive before tapes degrade nothing.

i’ve got hardware need digitize everything; it’s pretty kludgy, works. could rip default format quicktime player spits out , call done, i’d kind of rather trim off excess garbage @ ends , run stabilization routine, , maybe recompress @ less overkill bitrate qt player generates default, since videos blurry heck anyway. stabilization in particular pretty critical, since it’s pretty nauseating watch of these old videos @ postage-stamp window sizes, , unbearable on big screen tv.

have lot of videos, speed of workflow massive plus.

problem: old go-to stabilizer, istabilize, abandonware, , seems have trouble exports now. it’s funky , time consuming use, albeit effective , moderately fast.

bigger problem: imovie 10 of course stabilization, option 4:3 project gone now, it’s not useful mp4 videos of vhs-era material. stabilizer seems extraordinarily slow, , lacks easy crop option.

question: suggestions? want throw mp4 file @ software, maybe basic trimming, stabilized, , export minimum of fuss. don’t want pay $300 fcp (which i’m assuming, maybe naively, work), if there’s reasonably priced option, i’m willing pay money it.

recommendations?

imovie10 handle 4:3 video fine(i still use 4:3 camcorder). put black bars @ either end, modern tvs widescreen, ok on tv.
