2015 iMac SSD + external USB vs Fusion

hi everyone,

i'm in market new 27" imac replace 2011 model work , i'm torn between getting ssd applications , using 1tb external usb drive files or getting 1tb fusion drive.

web design , development have quite lot of files clients sitting on machine i'm going spending time using phpstorm (a php ide website development) either mamp or vagrant , photoshop , lightroom managing client photos etc.

have experience in both drives? i've read reviews saying ssd cache on fusion drive isn't big used (24gb now)? i'm not sure can spring 512gb ssd think on 256gb model if factor.

thoughts / opinions appreciated.

the 1tb fusion drive supposedly apples soft spot in imac line. given it's sealed system, spinning platter drive accident waiting happen matter of fact. had 240 ssd in macbook pro , ran adobe suite , aperture no space issues. usb 3 should fast enough external file storage thunderbolt enclosure swap drives out of give more speed , flexibility.

replacing computer in spring.

dale
