Itunes - starting & stopping on its own


hi all,

have 2010 imac 27" , running el capitan date. have 12 gb ram , plenty of hard drive space. last night running itunes , listening music , browsing web. upon clicking button on web page or not doing anything, itunes stop playing song , pause. press play , song continue stop again after couple of minutes while still browsing web. tried safaria & chrome , happens both. there no real consistency when happens or how long music plays before stopping. crazy thing if let song stop , don't replay, starts again. last night left room itunes open , started playing again. had close app sure not start again. morning listening itunes no problems not have web browsers open. can't sure, think happening (music stopping) when clicked on other things web, "about mac" apple menu choice. have never experienced before. can offer advice?
