Please help about backup iPhone and iPad


hi

iphone 4s used many years. foolishly updated ios few months ago , becomes lagged , have buy new phone.

never used icloud or backup. inexperienced. have lot of contacts / sms / notes , photos want them. shouldn't exceed 5gb free space.

i'd know if it's better backup icloud or pc computer itunes?? 1 more complete?

have ipad want backup (or things) . of courses iphone , ipad contains different contents. need 2 apple id? if use 1 apple id, mix up, overwrite or lose contents ??? not familiar ios....
