Importing text into InDesign
hi all,
trying grips using indesign (cs6) , load of text workbook type document.
i've used place import word doc..(which 290 pages) > show import options ,
shift , clicked loaded cursor.
need text appear in word, it's in paragraphs , set correctly. thankfully of correct when import.
but, problems:
1) new indesign document 167 pages missing half pages.
2) text boxes/images on lot of pages bunched together.
3) if delete object (say image) off page, rest of text below moves on page...when i
want gap image used be, empty.
i feel pain!
unfortunately, importing word inexact science. things go awry. how good/bad seems depend on structure of word document. generally, if word document quite simple , uses paragraph styles you're in reasonable chance. if word user has got fancy it, can nightmare.
there's text massaging done. news there few tricks make life easier. once trick use paragraph/object styles in indesign files , apply them using greps (find/replace). can paragraph style mapping - that's say, turning text in particular paragraph style in word document indesign paragraph style. , if want flashy can use script apply find , replaces.
in short, you're unlikely* find in situation can import word document indesign , have "just work". there's *some* tweaking done - little, heaps.
