Archiving time machine from time capsule


i cleaned computer , installed fresh without time machine , copied apps + files manually (it long overdue , running out of space).

have transferred want; want put old time machine backup on hard drive in case forgot when reset time capsule restored computer.

simple copying image in data folder mounted time capsule?

or, if have new-ish time capsule, can plug in usb drive , have time capsule up. see archive disk function in airport utility/disks (i have never used it, know there).

addendum: said never used it, had try it. seems straightforward: not format archive disk, needs sufficient space. usb2, seems running 50gb/hour.
