Mac Mini - USB 3.0 Bus Saturation?

setup: mac mini late 2014 usb 3.0 enclosed samsung evo 850 (500gb) ssd running mac os x. have external usb 3.0 sata usb 3.0 adapter doing time machine backups 1tb wd black (7200rpm). razer gaming mouse + logitech gaming keyboard pc gaming days (usb). 2 thunderbolt ports being used dual monitors.

question: need worry saturating usb 3.0 bus? can tell usb 3.0 limited 5gbps or 625mb/sec - , that's 4 usb 3.0 ports together, right?

suggestions, comments welcome - time,

i have couple of evo 850 250gb ssd's internal in 2012 mbp. before set raid 0, getting anywhere under 300mb/s under 500mb/s write , 500mb/s read (blackmagic). it's faster you're experiencing, i've read, it's not unexpected, given you're using usb. there's review of samsung t1 usb ssd got 423mb/s read, 393mb/s write (blackmagic). usb interface t1 better tuned running ssd on usb whatever enclosure/docking station use. you're seeing not terribly out of ball park, think.

(as comparison, on 2014 mini have monster digital thunderbolt 240gb ssd, understand uses crucial m500 internals. m500 older ssd (blackmagic) 300mb/s write, 500mb/s read.)

see in 2014 mini, usb devices share 1 bus. system report no longer reports bus being used each usb port, way report presented, compared 2012 mini , i've seen on web (mainly audio enthusiasts use usb dac), case.

saturating bus usb on? don't think because based on how long tm backups can take, doesn't seem me disk intensive. if doing first backup evo external hdd, maybe there contention. if you're backing evo external hdd, backup using evo , that, more bus contention, have performance impact may experience. in other words, if backing internal hdd, don't think you'd notice difference in system response. input devices pretty non-factor. thunderbolt ports have own buses.

if avoid bus contention, avoid doing disk-intensive work while backup being done or manually backups when you're going away computer. (you can still scheduled backups manually doing 1 while computer isn't being used, can reduce amount of work scheduled backups have do.)
can move evo internal sata port of mini. it's pain install , maybe want keep hdd there, ssd faster , there won't other device sharing bus sata interface uses. finally, maybe can research or can suggest usb enclosure gets performance similar t1 gets.

  1. Time Machine offers a great approach to ensuring data on your Mac is preserved. As part of this process, backups are slowly removed to make room for new ones being added to the designated storage location. In some cases, a backup will be removed when it is still needed or one could become damaged unexpectedly. How do you get this information back? Is it gone forever? Can you recover deleted files from Time Machine? The answer to these questions is “yes” you can get it back and “no” it is not gone forever.
