iPhone in the cold


has else experienced this? have iphone 6s plus , while walking home tonight in 24 degree weather, shut off , said battery dead, came on, did same thing again. 5s never had issues working in cold can remember. know phones have operating temperature work , dont work @ figured 24 pretty good. think it's big issue should looked at? or general hardware issues because of cold temps? thanks!
 

where phone? walk phone in jeans pocket regularly, , don't have problem in below freezing temps (yet).
