Controlling Volume on ATV4?

ok have connected atv4 vizio tv through hdmi input. have bose sound system connected vizio tv though optical cable since bose has no hdmi inputs. vizio tv supports arc. have vizio tv speakers off.

siri remote came apple tv not control volume. bar on screen moves volume not change. surely atv4 should able make volume louder , softer??? when computer air-playing music volume changes when adjust through itunes.

should able leave receiver volume constant , change volume using atv4, right? computer after mac , should let volume go , down mac itunes.

please give me input, it's driving me crazy.

on separate note vizio tv turns on atv4 not off when atv4 sleeping... minor issue if knows solution helpful.

was tv able control volume of bose system beforehand? if so, see there being expectation tv volume controls (which atv trying control) modify sound. atv remote won't control speakers through optical though. sounds it's trying turn tv speakers , down, imagine works fine if had tv speaker on; turn tv speakers on , confirm audio changing.

air playing music allows modify volume of phone pushing, has nothing speaker volume.

have onkyo receiver vizio tv; onkyo has hdmi , ran through it, "out" hdmi going tv. works expected.

...i've reread post few times now, , think see misunderstanding. answer no, volume control on remote won't change volume same way airplay does. airplay allows change volume of source, phone or mac. remote functions control tv or other hdmi-connected device's physical volume. example, on receiver, can see volume changing on receiver when use volume control. it's passing control on device.

sleep issue: tv should turn off when apple tv sleeps, had issue when first enabled hdmi controls i'd set atv sleep, should shut down, after few seconds trigger come on again... turned tv off manually, allowing shut down. assumed i'd have going forward, since then, has worked expected.

so, try turning tv off , letting put atv sleep; wait couple minutes, turn atv on, make sure tv comes on, wait minute, put atv sleep again. maybe it'll work.
