have never got around moving files old 2009 imac, , missed opportunity use migration assistant when first bought imac.

manually copied itunes folders, , these in new image library, biggest concern photos.... still sit on old imac 2009 , creaking hard drive.

2009 imac backed time capsule time machine....which rapidly reaching own limit of storage..

trying copy iphoto library file (under pictures on user account of 2009 imac) external 2tb usb drive...but worried there 250g copy, , transfer rate looks painfully sloe...and estimating 3 days.....

thinking going forward use external drives, , possibly external multibay enclosure devices access...however now, have 3tb fusion drive in new imace has plenty of room absorb...i need find way iphoto library on safely...

welcome help...

my advice:

require external drive.

1. download carboncopycloner here:
http://www.bombich.com/download.html
ccc free download, , it's free use 30 days.

2. use ccc clone contents of old imac's drive external drive.

3. have exact copy of contents of imac on external drive, in "plain old finder format".
can mount it, read it, copy 1 file or folder, or copy dozens of files/folders.

4. take new mac, , "move over" need move "by hand".
