Nightmarish experience with Apple Upgrade Program

results not typical. ymmv. curious if else experienced though.

went apple store 8am reservation iphone 6s plus 128gb. went smoothly until final step after put ssn , other details approval system. system said "purchase exceeds financing limit."

strange, since have high credit limit (5 digits, way larger $130 initial payment have do) , flawless credit. financing $1170, full price of 6s plus 128gb, apple sales rep told me contact chase see why declined.

chase call #1 — chase said didn't receive authorization purchase, put on high spending note anyway. tried again, no dice - same error message.

trying card — okay, trying credit card, time bank of america. went through entire process again. same error message.

chase call #2 — rep has no idea going on , confused why i'm financing purchase on credit card. tells me contact citizens 1 (the bank financing iphone upgrade program) because error isn't on side – aren't seeing authorization.

citizens one — rep says have 3 tries per card before have wait 30 days. says financing limit $4000 long i'm under that, , credit can accommodate next 3 months of payments, should go through. tells me contact apple. gives me phone number apple financing goes "not in service". nice.

trying again — decided give shot bank of america card @ error message. time changed. says "customer ineligible apple offers."

apple — enter twilight zone. apple rep has no idea going on. when ask transferred whoever responsible apple financing, it's person in store. oh yeah, brilliant! ask again transferred , don't have transfer me , need contact citizens 1 why it's not going through.

apple. store rep incredibly nice , patient hour took , said should pay outright secure reserved phone, figure out apple, , come in week can return , set financing program again. nightmare was.

 

i received "purchase exceeds financing limits" reason not being approved. have excellent credit , cards have high limits, 5 digit credit limit, , balances not high (pay off every month). had work paid off entire phone on spot same card used apply upgrade program. oh well.
