had 1 drive had 1 folder disappear in mac os x, , disk utility said there problem. plugged windows computer , ran chkdsk , recovered files (most of them actually).
plugged macbook, along backup external hard drive make sure of files date , transfer some. now, backup hard drive has been plugged in 5 times in past 2 years, , has had best of conditions. yet entire backup drive unmountable. did throw error during copying of 1 file may or may not have been bad on first drive, or maybe died right in middle of transferring file...
should trust these 2 hard drives anymore? first 1 making weird noise infrequently few weeks before had it's problem. 2nd backup 1 right out of box. wd says have 2 year warranty on them, more hassle worth?
did buy new usb3 hard drive on black friday before of happened, , have think now. format mac os extended (journaled) drive? there benefits since use windows run chkdsk? should buy second 1 , setup raid array? $100 cheap insurance compared having deal this.
