iPad 4 lock screen keeps activating


so mother in law has ipad 4, less 12 months old , still in warranty.

within month or 2 got dropped. despite being in case, there cracks @ edge of screen down @ home button end. can live that.
problem lock screen activates constantly. didn't realise pain in arse until today.

assume lock screen activation faulty/damaged lock button? hints or solutions?

given obvious screen damage, have thoughts on whether apple replace under warranty lock activation problem?
 

bump. got ideas?
