Disk Utility: how to initialize a failed external 1TB USB 3.0 HDD?

my iomega 1tb usb 3.0 decided die on me. plugging 2 mac os computers , 1 windows 7 laptop using different cables , different usb ports avail did nothing: platters spin hdd won't mount. controller... knows. didn't have patience , cracked enclosure opened find toshiba hdd.

have dock , using that, disk utility sees drive , prompt me initialize when plugging in. have no option in disk utility.

iomega tech support says left expectancy of these drives 3-5 years (learn new everyday) , recommended have 3 copies of data @ times, 1 work with, on site , third offsite.

guidance helpful. apparently data still on there. how recover it?
