Upgrade 13 vs 15 MBP? Computational biology.

hi!
looking update. have used mac since old enough tell parents don't windows. graduate student , start working on computational biology. user of macbooks, current macbook air (1,3 ghz intel core i5 4gb ram). doing regular biology , stuff portable , powerful enough everything.
since started biocomputer thing it's running @ full. becoming warm in process , ram not enough. so... considering moving pro.
being used portability of air considered 13" one. however. computer. move... lot. among countries , continents. in time periods go couple of months couple of yeas. so... big fancy desktop not nice have , move often. considered 15 inch better. since don't make enough money pay discrete gpu quad core vs dual core , maybe iris pro vs hd6100 of 13 inch (considering go 16gb ram on both, not making mistake again)
price different worth it? or should favor portability? or should keep computer , try ssh way through of this?

here experience, not totally match yours might help. have mid-2010 mbp i7, 17'' 8 gb ram , ssd. use vmware fusion run windows work.

running win 4 gb ram , spinning hard drive excrutiating. installed 4gb more ram few years ago , improved speed, not as had expected. few months ago installed ssd. machine flying.

before ssd install, machine running hot, scared me. did remove lot of lint innards during install. it's have whole new computer. fans never go on 2000rpm. windows runs if natively running.

me, ssd , clean more useful more ram.

13" on 15", after playing both @ apple store, go bigger screen on portability have switch views often. 1 window open @ time, 13" ok.
