06/07 Mac Pro (1,1/2,1) and OS X El Capitan

i don't think reads mac pro forum section goes os sections want make sure there note here mac pro 1,1 has proven again durable , long term machine in apple's history. nears 10 years of age can still run latest os, features.

original genius of tiamo , followup work team of additional geniuses. (not cheerful blue or grey shirted guys @ mall) users of old workhorse can run el capitan full feature set.

have figured out fix recovery partition.

putting newer gpu in, along available wifi ac/bt 4.0 card, can use every new feature of os, metal graphics , handoff/continuity/airdrop.

pretty amazing.

poignant far, these machines era run el capitan. while mavericks , yosemite run on other older macs, have hit new brick wall. os can installed , booted, bust far of other efi32 machines 64bit cpus have no usb function. so, no way move mouse or enter on keyboard. since bt runs via usb bus, these ruled out.

think may possible usb working, still hampered non-accelerated graphics. none of other older macs have had real qe/ci since 10.8.

mac pro 1,1 has remained relevant , useful long after rest of it's 2006/7 era machines relegated 10.7.5 or limited functionality in later os's.

don't think need how-to here, follow link os forum. prefer method isn't catching on anyway. boot.fi enables full function released earlier today.

note boot.efi enables full function on page 19.

have found easiest method to put 2.5" drive in supported machine, run gm installer, replace 2 boot.efi files in main install. big breakthrough today ability have recovery partition work, can disable sip, allowing system file modding.

found having working 10.9 or 10.10 install on 1,1 made life easier.

not sure how others it, in 1 of os's ran in terminal:

defaults write com.apple.diskutility dudebugmenuenabled 1

open disk utility , use new "debug" section "show partitions"

el cap recovery partition should appear on desktop. if there multiple "recovery" partitions, make sure find el cap one.

use latest boot.fi replace 1 in there, have unlock first.

unlock it, go terminal , type: sudo chflags nouchg

before hit "return" drag locked boot.efi file terminal window, put it's path there.

hit return, if have done little "lock" icon disappear. chuck in trash , place latest boot.efi in it's place. should use "get info" lock again.

should able use "option" key @ boot choose recovery 10.11 partition boot drive.

open terminal utilities menu , type in: csrutil status

should tell "enabled" type: csrutil disable

should tell you need reboot.

instructions switch other 2 on main os install in linked thread.

far works on mac pro 1,1 , 2,1 !!!

sheep666 put package, not sure yet how works sip.

pre-gm release installed on 64bit efi machine, ran sheep's scripts , rebooted couple times until 64bit machine quit booting install, sign had 32bit efi. moved drive on , worked. beauty of app in past re-copies boot.efi files @ every shut down, updates can run impunity. should wait release on 9/30 finalize procedures, , defer guys in thread, did work, tested it.

1,1 mac pro heck of machine. courtesy of it's pcie slots , nvidia's driver packages can put gpus in make owners of 6,1 nmp trash cans drool envy.

again tiamo pioneering work, whoever , wherever is.

 

i try explain winblows fans 2006 mac pro dream upgrade , kicks @ss in every way, don't understand. them, computer specifications on paper , nothing else. unfortunate them. can't wait test el cap out on 1,1 mac pro once os released in full!
