Dead MacBook Pro

hi - extremely helpful suggestions of how go forward!

here's situation:
macbook pro - 2011

watching tv-show yesterday on macbook, when shut down (without warning me of battery needing recharging). plugged in charger , restarted computer, , wouldn't past loading screen (white screen apple logo in middle, , loading progress bar @ bottom). before progress bar complete, switched off again. tried couple more times, , exact same thing happened. called apple support, told press command+r, select disk utility, select "verify disk" (where issue found) , select "repair disk", unable do. told clear external hard drive. got 1 morning (1 tb), called apple repair again, , told me insert external hard drive, press command+r when restarting , utilities menu select "reinstall". tried this, didn't work (i made sure connect wifi).

have appointment @ apple store on tuesday, wondering if has tips on how might able save data hard drive? haven't backed 2 years (learned lesson now), have been researching, , have seen may possible. tips appreciated.

additional info - cursor had been acting lot past month, point got mouse (which worked perfectly). looks battery has been expanding (which figured out after researching), because touchpad seems pushed inside, , area around seems pushed well. on left side though, in area below keyboard. middle of touchpad left/bottom end of keyboard. have problems?

tell apple store not wipe data, , if can't that, remove , replace hard drive - giving old 1 (so can usb connect later data). might $100 them swap drive, @ least don't wipe it.
