Devices for 70+ year old Technophobes

good morning all.

i'm trying head start on birthday gift old man. no offense old-timers in forums, seniors can tough shop for--they've got of material things want already, , can resistant adopting otherwise new..."stuff".

father has no mobile phone, doesn't want one, , has endured several failed attempts family force 1 upon him. including jitterbug. no interest in computing, he's taken xfinity x1 voice command features. however, 70th birthday, got him second generation ipad. loves it, , uses daily. it's perfect device him, although can tell confounded software updates.

he's got no third party apps, no real interest in them, , uses device precisely 1 thing, , 1 one thing only: safari. , that's okay--it's way him odd google search, check cinema showtime, read news article, etc.

long pretext simple question. want father take advantage of of health-related devices keep him active. mother far more tech-savvy, younger, , loves fitbit--even competitions colleagues. i'd dad on board that. simple tool keep him active can comfortably be.

have of had experience in own lives sort of gifting? success or suggestions?

best wishes happy new year.
