Developers Behind F.lux Call on Apple to Allow F.lux App for iOS Devices

developers behind f.lux have published official response apple's night shift feature, calling apple's move address nighttime exposure blue light "big commitment , important first step." ask apple take support step further implementing tools allow app store version of f.lux app.

f.lux mac has been available years , popular in mac community users want avoid blue light @ night. research has suggested bright light exposure (especially blue wavelength) @ night can interrupt circadian rhythm, causing sleep problems , other harmful effects on immune system. while there's been mac solution blue light time, no such tool has been available on non-jailbroken ios device.

in november, developers behind f.lux attempted bring official ios version of f.lux to iphone , ipad using app side-loaded onto ios devices via xcode, apple put stop it , told f.lux asking customers side-load apps onto ios devices violates developer program agreement.

f.lux's developers not able create official app store version of f.lux ios devices without apple's because apis control display temperature not provided apple. version of f.lux briefly available used private apis prevent being approved release in app store.

night shift mode available developers , public beta testers running ios 9.3. feature see public release spring when ios 9 launches.
