iMac comparisons

i've been watching discussions here new imacs , have considered getting one, must admit i'm confused. question i'm trying answer variation of new machines best fit work do.

current machine mbp late 2011 (i7 2.5ghz, amd radeon hd 6770m 1024 mb) using lightroom 5, photoshop 6 , doing light video work in premiere 6.

here 3 upgrade options i'm looking at
  • upgrade hdd in mbp laptop ssd , continue work have
  • get 21.5 either i5 or i7 16gb ram , 512 gb ssd
  • get 27 either i5 or i7 8gb ram (upgrade later) either 2gb or 4gb graphics cards.
what in real life terms difference between cpu , gpu configurations in 2 models of imacs mean work applications? (haswell vs skylake cpu , integrated vs discrete gpu) when 1 reads posting adobe version of lr use (lr5) doesn't use gpu, while newest version uses 1 within development module, seems choice of graphics cards isn't important.

given current machine runs fine, perhaps best option upgrade laptop ssd , wait until apple comes out (perhaps) improved desktop model next year.

do experience bottle necks? process start , go cup of coffee because know going awhile?

know storage device make massive difference in pretty task. alone make mbp feel new machine don't let detract other existing bottle necks...a 5400 rpm hdd can keep i7 fed while encoding video faster processor can beneficial.

edit : meant encoding not rendering...duh
