Resolved - Safari crashed Mac

hi. encountered horrible issue on 27-inch imac (mid-2011) before christmas , wondering if else had encounter same problem.

had been surfing regular websites in safari when screen went white, , after few seconds imac restarted. once restarted, after logging imac, same thing happened before else.

fortunately have macbook saw me on christmas, having tried various options such starting in safe boot first (which ok), , using account have on imac (which ok), logging normal account , launching safari resulted in same white screen/restart.

used safe boot again, sent safari caches , preferences trash, , did hard boot.

seems have cured it, interested know if knows may have caused this.
assuming website has cached os x doesn't 1 with, avoid website if possible.

on os 10.11.2 , safari 9.0.2.

ideas/assistance gratefully received.

it may said in cache odd website caused this, fact safe mode boot alone fixed makes me think otherwise. safe mode boot stops startup , login items launching, if stopped it, makes me think have sort of conflict third party utility or app.

download , run app. etrecheck while in normal boot (not safe mode). create , anonymized report can upload here take @ might running.

after that, run app malwarebytes scan malware might have accidentally installed.
