Applecare - Not covering Liquid spill (what to do?)

hello there,

studying exams , spilled coconut water in backpack, , macbook pro retina 15" (early 2013) ended getting water left side of ports (affecting thunderbolt , charging ports). took laptop repair apple, hoping wouldn't notice liquid spill. apple genius told me charging port working fine, issuing me new replacement charger under warranty. told me thunderbolt ports weren't working, , issued logic board replacement (without opening mac up). week later call 1 of technicians saying there's liquid spill around thunderbolt ports, why it's not working , sticky residue on fans (which said not big deal, can wiped off) cannot go through repair under warranty. replied denying water damage , first technician looked @ said okay. technician replied saying he's sorry , isn't sure if previous employee opened or not check. repair costs $647 plus tax originally, brought down labour fee ($40), making repair $607 plus tax. (he brought price down without me asking fyi)

wondering if there reasoning can give support claim of water damage not being fault? 1 scenario thinking first apple genius bar employee opened mac , said fine, putting blame on end. student, $600 repair expensive , since spent $300 on applecare, want utilize it.

if advice on situation appreciate it!

thank guys much!

what gets logged technical notes incident matters, not told you. if opened case (vs doing quick visual inspection), should logged in notes. if spoke specific, should logged in notes.

also, apple store worked at, genius bar (and whole of house) under video surveillance. if you're going try , make case they got wet, need prepared them potentially reviewing video.

maybe next time should consider squaretrade's warranties. of them offer accidental damage coverage.
