Best way to transfer information from old iMac to new imac

i getting new imac tomorrow. don't use time machine , have of data on separate external hard drive. best way transfer files on internal hard drive new imac. advice.

personally used migration assistant mm new imac, cat6 ethernet cable , followed directions. i'd suggest thunderbolt cable if have one, thought did didn't used cat6 believe next fastest option. took few give or take complete whole process boot transfer using imac, mm had little on 500gb on internal hdd. if internals ssd might faster.

pretty sure use other apps carbon copy or drive cloning app , done well, , i'm sure there thread migration assistant , other options pretty info too.
here ya go
