Unable to correctly set startup disk

hi,

today installed accelsiorm pcie card samsung evo msata ssd in mac pro 3.1.

booted computer using current boot drive (os x 10.10.5) , since saw ssd recognised, proceeded install el capitan on it. in middle on installation, mac rebooted, instead of booting el capitan, booted 10.6.8 partition ! rebooted computer , selected ssd @ boot time (using option key) , installation of el capitan completed without issue.

now, when reboot computer , hold option key, can choose whatever os (10.6.8 or 10.10.5 sata hard disks, or 10.11 ssd), boots , works correctly, , other os partitions mounted , usable. whatever selection in startup disk preferences, computer boot 10.6.8 default !

in 10.6.8 see 10.6.8 disk in startup disk preferences. if use systemsetup setstartupdisk set disk, errors /volumes/thedisk/system/library/coreservices not valid system (where thedisk either 10.10.5 or 10.11 partition)

10.11 , 10.10.5 see bootable partitions in startup disk preferences, if choose e.g. 10.10.5 while booted in 10.11, computer correctly boot 10.10.5.

if choose 10.11 either 10.11 or 10.0.5, computer reboots in 10.6.8. if reboot , use option key boot 10.11 , open startup disk preferences, tells me 10.11 selected boot disk.

in 10.6.8 see no boot disk selected in startup disk preferences (nothing written left of restart button). if use systemsetup getstartupdisk answer /volumes/ssd/winnt (!!!) ssd indeed name of 10.11 partition, have no idea winnt comes !!! of course directory not exists. expected answer /volumes/ssd/system/library/coreservices

i’ve reset pram didn’t change anything.

idea what’s going on , how fix ?

lot !

edit: forgot mention ssd disk seen removable os, though i'm not sure if relevant.

i have similar situation: cmp has original apple toshiba sata ssd (empty) fd composed of apple pcie ssd mounted adaptor , standard internal hdd. fd has installation 10.11.

of course, fd seen external drive.

had 10.11 installation on apple sata ssd, recovery partition still residing there.

every time tried start machine boots default recovery partition. in case can select fd boot drive, system seems forget after being powered down - , again starts recovery partition.

came conclusion mac os prefers boot internal drive if recovery partition.

love hear thoughts experienced users, e.g. macvidcards.

thanks,
magnus
