What is clean installation, and upgrade question


my mac snow leopard 10.6.8. 4 yrs , time upgrade.

used hear clean installation eradicate problem. i'm noob , first time doing upgrade. mean clean installation. appreciate easy step , guidance.

secondly, os version shld upgrade? think refrain leaping el capitan understand there's still bugs issue. jumping yosemite big leap , i'm considering that. upgrade or guys think lower os better?

a "clean install" on mac install format harddrive first , install osx usb-stick. google how it. after you've made install, don't restore "system" time-machine backup - data (home directory). i'd recommemd don't have apps restored - make new install of them well, if possible. "clean" system, without "bloat" might have been installed on system on years , multiple os updates.

type of computer have got, exactly? on 2009 13" mbp (2.53ghz, 8gb ram), el capitan running faster yosemite (did clean install on yosemite, update el cap)
