Lost administrator password


i've lost admin password mac (10.6.8) best way back, must of changed password subject enntirely different hint not working, obviosuly not want lose mp3's , other files, safest opetion please.
 

reboot hold command-s @ startup single suer mode see command line.

type mount drive:

code:
mount -uw /
then list users , grab username:

code:
ls /users
then reset password substituting own username:

code:
passwd username
then type reboot , enter new password.

account, keychain still locked old password , there no way around this. need reset keychain , start over.
