Samsung Appeals to U.S. Supreme Court in Last Effort to Avoid $548 Million Apple Payment

samsung today asked united states supreme court hear latest appeal in ongoing patent battle apple, reports re/code. in august, following a rejection u.s. federal circuit court of appeals, samsung said take case supreme court november, , has followed through plans.

in appeal, includes wider criticism on patent law, samsung says jury not provided enough information understand patents, problem says afflicts many design patent cases.

samsung has already agreed pay $548 million settlement apple, full sum expected paid today, should supreme court rule in samsung's favor, there clause require apple pay money.

apple , samsung have been battling on patent infringement issues since 2012, when jury ruled samsung willfully violated multiple apple patents, resulting in $1 billion in damages. since then, samsung has been fighting ruling. on course of several appeals , partial retrial, samsung has gotten damages reduced $548 million total.

samsung's appeal supreme court last ditch effort. should supreme court refuse hear appeal or rule in apple's favor, samsung not able recoup $548 million paying apple. samsung have difficulty convincing supreme court @ case, court notoriously selective cases agrees hear.
