Why has waterproofing become a 'requirement'?


lots of threads upcoming models , common theme: waterproofness. i'm curious why has become such 'thing'? water damage prevalent of issue? people need iphones in shower or pool? i'm not against this, i'm surprised @ how momentum has gotten, relative other features want see.
 

i think phone makers running out of new wiz-bang features , careless, waterproofing might good. not bothered loosing headphone jack have been on wireless long time now.
