iPhone 4s battery issue

so, have old iphone 4s running last ios (10.1?) , battery drain crazy, chrome, facebook app , whatsup, reach low levels after 2 hours, , i'm not heavy user, every , check messages, it's not on time. made tweaks disabling background refreshing, location , stuff that, it's still not helping. i'm thinking buy new battery, before buy one, want know how can make sure if it's software or hardware problem. there anyway can check?   its iphone 4s, thats problem. it's 5 models old. came out multiple years ago. technology @ time wasn't great. battery wasn't great begin with. on time battery life deteriorates. apps use more cpu , ram due complexity , such = kills battery faster. need new iphone, perhaps latest , greatest iphone 6s. answer question, software , hardware. software- being apps in store days, not os. apps use more data , processing power tend today...
