i have 2tb samsung hd204ui sata hard drive docked usb 3.0 sharkoon speedport duo use backup external hard drive time time. i'm using on 15 inch retina macbook pro , el capitan 10.11.3. here symptoms: sometimes take longer other disks appear on desktop when mount (often minute or so) there "damagedfiles" folder on 2 ".dsstore" files on (probably normally-hidden finder files) even if mount properly, appears if there nothing on (0 items) sometimes applications complain not being able write it however: running first aid in new disk utility says everything's fine most of time, fine if takes bit longer mount so, i'd guess these symptoms of failing hard drive (it's backup if fail don't lose important). before new one, want make sure issue , not else. possibly dock behaving strangely? should try reformatting it? or should not take risks , steer clear of drive , new one?

here 1 of story's apple doing right thing. had 2012 15" rmbp fan issue (buzzing, scratching , dings), had repaired in dec of 14. 2 weeks later same issue happened again, not sent machine in repair daily driver work. delt issue year.. while computer never overheated, fans making constant buzzing noise. had time bring in on holiday year. machine sent repair depot in houston fan issue , turns out replaced both fans , logic board. got computer on 12/24 , on 12/26 the right fan motor went dead , left fan began spin erratically 6k rpm down 3k, 4k, etc. went apple store , offered replace entire machine brand new 2015 rmbp before ask. apple care proved worth investment again. 2012 refurb bought sometime in 2013. know apple refurbs held high standard, experience enough never make me purchase refurb apple again.   i have story: several months before applecare expire, hardrive died. thing is..it ss

sigh. so, in july of year bought refurb 2015 13" macbook pro directly apple. was, apparently mistake. have babied it. has been near liquid since i've owned it. can absolutely 100% guarantee neither nor in or house (no 1 else gets use it) has spilled near it. no 1 has borrowed it. hasn't happened. , don't live in particularly humid place... but, week , half ago ssd died. after keeping 5 days, local apple store opened open , said found corrosion near connection point of ssd , refused fix under warranty. no matter said, techs wouldn't change mind or me. fault, plain , simple. isn't fault. i'm guessing happened 1 out there bought it, spilled water on it, , returned it. refurb folks fired up, worked, , that's it. shipped it! oh, , way, moisture sensors don't show anything. or maybe it's design flaw... have computer @ place trying me, @ point, i'm not happy apple's guilty until proven innocent policy here, sinc
