Ramping up my freelance


i've been doing bunch of freelance web work lately , have set goal year of increasing revenues 10 times. in order so, have stop relying solely on referrals , start soliciting local businesses whom feel use services. in other words, want turn hobby business.

question is, best way this? i'd speak owners of local restaurants either don't have or have terrible websites , show them can them. should drop in , ask speak owner (during slow business hours)? email them through existing site? should call , ask if can set meeting? what's best way approach not encroach on time still give me best chance of landing new clients?

thoughts?
 

i've been working heavily mom , pop businesses on twelve years , honestly, don't know begin except growing business 10x in 1 year unrealistic plan if have no sales experience, local businesses. of course, don't know how made last year. if it's tiny number, yeah see multiplying 10x.

local hard nut crack. they're broke, have no time, have unrealistic expectations, , don't understand how give need job. you're fishing in pool of high demand / low reward clients.

local businesses need find way of getting foot in door. you're more land them if know knows them or you're involved in association they're participating in, there's no script because every community different. lot of people try joining chambers of commerce in front of small businesses, that's hit or miss too... , in opinion more of miss of time, might learning experience you.

referral best way go. if you're dissatisfied referral base, chances you're going have trouble soliciting. it's chicken , egg thing. if referrals, you'll better soliciting, until have referrals, you'll have hard time soliciting. it's lot of work, humiliating, , waste of time. often, you're going spend hours , hours talking people going ride roughshod until learn recognize personalities before in deep.
