First post here. Need some advice... considering switching to Windows to save $

first post here. long time lurker since i’ve been pondering go next computer.

first, little background..

i’ve been mac user since 2012, 4 years solid. have 11” mid 2011 macbook air. part, runs day got it. got college computer right before graduated high school, couldn’t start college until 2 years after graduated due health issues. i’ll graduating 2 year program next spring. there, plan on getting bachelors. macbook air has served me well. unfortunately battery life isn’t best, , carrying around cord around campus physically difficult me since can’t plug in myself (i’m in wheelchair). though had battery replaced around 6 months ago, still drains faster like. upgrading can better battery life—ideally 9 hours or more--but i’m not sure upgrade to.

in perfect world, i’d love replace mac. @ time mba released, lightest thing on market, reason buying it. because of disability, smallest bit of weight counts. additionally, old windows laptop slow, needed work/had sort of virus, , overheat point of shutting down, made switch. know retina macbook lighter 11” air, huge me. love os x , have had 0 issues it.

although can technically afford mac , have had money saved awhile in case, know there cheaper options available. van has issues currently, , i’d have decent chuck of money saved if need fix it. it's vehicle can use since has ramp.

guess leads me to: if switched windows save money, stable? buying windows laptop would, in theory, put ~$600 in pocket on retina macbook. i’ve heard great things windows 10, haven’t used yet due desktops both @ home , on campus still having windows 7. know there’s lot of lightweight laptops available, well. don’t care os runs, long works. have come far enough wouldn’t have worry things trackpad issues, overheating, , malware?

if have, i’d willing give shot. know sure surface out me (although people love them). don’t have use detachable keyboard or touch screen. make things more complicated me. don’t write due fine motor issues, type fast—around 70 wpm. in other words, don’t need touch screen, light, stable laptop awesome battery life don’t have ask plug charger in me on campus.

currently, use mac homework/document creation, music, email, itunes, , web browsing. pretty basic stuff. again, i’d willing buy mac if it’s still smoother windows. it’s worked beautifully. would, however, nice save money if windows has improved since 10 released. save or splurge...

if has opinion or computers recommend on either side based off information have here, awesome. thanks!

i think give more rounded assistance need know how important kb ergonomics ie must equivalent or better lighter/smaller/cheaper laptops have compromises in these areas, rmb has short travel compared 11" mba

likewise brief explanation if interface phone (iphone ?) has importance needs.

new 11" mba have outstanding battery life , cheaper rmb have not noted why may not easiest solution you, or trying go below entry point on price. if considering other os outside windows or osx floor opens considerably

have read here many find discounted prices on apple products , others (eg open box) presumably can ignore these opportunities sake of fairness in comparisons , options.

in truth win10 laptops come touch screens , although may not feel cannot take full advantage of these has little or no premium attached , of course can ignore (i did on top end vaio z pro prior win 10) , may find aspects may help, @ bonus imo. likewise removable kb's although presumable clamshell best footprint wise you(ie no kickstands or folding supports preferred). likewise assume of advance features of trackpads difficult use.

window 10 has many facilities assist kinds of problems , should not understated additional flexibility of ease of access or ui scaling options offered these higher res screens fonts etc can become quite small wear reading glasses. further more cortana may find additional usage in areas , getting better. additionally screen mirroring tv' , other household appliances music etc seems far less restrictive , voids requirement plug in cables or have specific oem equipment.

security issues lot of dependent on user ie how paranoid are, point browser , how respond emails noting have won million :). many consider there little requirement 3rd party antivirus programs in win10 although having 1 installed automated ie 1 time install , forget. imo many pros vs cons on osx vs win10 bit argumentative average user , descend in minutiae of details.

let know can offer more focused suggestion :)
