Apple Pay reporting card error on terminal?


i in canada, have used apple pay before new amex card setup in phone. tried using @ hardware store down street. when attempted use apple pay terminal reported card error. tried twice, didn't work either time in spite of me using , seeming ok on phone. took out actual card, tapped , worked no problem. terminal @ store uses dial connection, wondering why had error , if apple pay requires terminal hooked broadband connection? thing think of
 

i had same issue @ local subway, card error. wonder if tap pay terminal isn't updated support apple nfc chip? next time go in i'll check name of terminal compare others.
