Square Launches NFC Reader to Bring Apple Pay to Smaller Businesses

mobile payments company square today announced launch of new nfc reader within 100 small businesses around country, letting stores unable accept apple pay -- due lack of required contactless reader -- begin supporting service (via usa today). small square-shaped reader act other apple pay-accepting terminals, letting users wave iphone or apple watch near device complete purchase.

business owners can buy square reader $49 begin allowing customers option use apple pay in storefronts. recent surge in popularity of chip cards, touted being safer , more secure physical payment alternative, reader has option accept chip cards in small slot located on side of device.
