Heading to Japan in March for a few days... Tips?


hey,
i'm heading japan in late march 5/6 days , having trouble making itinerary. "mini" overseas trip i'm trying save money next trip in summer, keeping budget possible. i've never gone overseas less 2 weeks crunched time. hoping on taking 9-hour long bus tokyo kyoto have nagging feeling bad idea. bullet train expensive not sure if worth it? bus, save 2 nights of hotel in both tokyo , kyoto plus cheaper fare. lose time , convenience. maybe should stay in tokyo? it's dream go kyoto it's far , expensive... may not return japan years, knows. want take advantage of opportunity don't want ruin trip 2 travel nights. spending total of 3 days traveling japan(overnight in shanghai) have little time in actual country. advice situation or general tips first time visitor japan(and asia in general!)? dad has been japan , china few times never leisure traveler helps little, guess, haha.
 

i've never been japan, less destination plan. if have 5-6 days, i'd inclined focus on 1 area. still enjoy 1-2 hour side trips. wouldn't want devote time traveling in country.

Fallout 4 Builds- Which ones You Prefer?
