iPad mini with M8 and steps


i received new ipad mini 4 today , seems cannot steps data.i have tried 1 pedometer app , day one. pedometer app gives step count 0 , day 1 tells me need device motion sensor.

behaviour expected or there wrong ipad? running latest public beta. cause problems?
 

i may wrong don't think ipad ever counted steps.
