apple has been ordered pay university of wisconsin's intellectual property management arm $234 million in damages infringing on 1 of processor patents, reports reuters.
earlier week, jury ruled apple had infringed on patent owned wisconsin alumni research foundation (warf) when used patented technology in a7, a8, , a8x processors included in 2013 , 2014 iphone , ipad lineup.
warf had asked damages high $862 million, later lowered request around $400 million. apple paying little more half of requested amount $234 million award warf received jury. presiding judge ruled apple had not willfully infringed on warf's patent, damages award stay @ $234 million.
patent in question, titled "table based data speculation circuit parallel processing computer," granted in 1998 , covers method improving processor efficiency. lists several current , former university of wisconsin researchers inventors.
wisconsin alumni research foundation has filed second lawsuit against apple same patent, accusing company of using technology in a9 , a9x chips found in iphone 6s, 6s plus, , ipad pro.
first 6 months of 2015, apple averaged daily net profit of $134.7 million, means judgment account approximately 42 hours of profit. apple has said appeal ruling.
