Received Apple TV and wondering what the point is


ok, resisted getting apple tv since it's inception, received 1 christmas , initial feelings towards have been justified far --- mainly, point of device if own relatively new tv has "apps" (youtube, amazon video, netflix, etc)?

still need cable subscription virtually (along embarrassingly cumbersome litany of logins every app), why not access of content on comcast's xfinity ondemand platform , avoid reaching remote , ui deal with? heck, comcast's latest x1 remote has built-in voice search can search entire catalogue of content.

lastly, i'm not convinced digging through channel apps find content better having comcast viewing guide of content choose regardless of channel it's on. in end, i'm left duplication of content can access through comcast x1 , handful of ios game ports. i'm "meh" on product , hoping can show me light. doesn't feel "the future of tv."
 

the primary purpose of apple tv provide easy way view internet content on television. note, there other ways of doing this, , 2 users may have different ideas on optimal solution may be. advantages apple tv offers on competitors ability stream directly itunes, airplay integration, , robust app store.

wife , use our apple tv on daily basis. us, it's our primary means of viewing netflix, hbo, showtime , pbs content. absolutely accomplish same thing other means; way apple tv works.
